Experience* I have tutored students K-12 from public, private, and homeschools in the Dayton area for 5 years in English, reading, writing, general math and early Algebra, study skills, test prep, and organization with great success, including students with ADD/ADHD, OCD, Tourettes, Dyslexia, IEPs, and other learning disadvantages.
* I have a casual, laid-back, holistic approach to teaching, and customize one-on-one sessions for every student. My assessments are not formal tests, as I believe these to be generally unreliable.
* I have found that both students and tutors perform best when limited to 30-60 minute sessions (depending on the age and learning abilities of the student), 1-2 times per week. I prefer in-home, in-person tutoring sessions, but am available for limited online and on-location sessions as well.
* I also offer the following tutor-related services: Small group study hall sessions for students on select afternoons, especially during breaks; parent-planning consultations to be held once a month or once a quarter, depending on preference, to help parents craft a learning plan for/with their student (Older students are welcome to these longer sessions, at the discretion of parents); small group homeschool/extracurricular classes.
* In March, I incorporated my tutoring business as Student Owned Learning (SOL), LLC, and am in the process of partnering with other local tutors in different areas of expertise, to better aid students. We hope to become a certified private school within the year. https://www.SOLLearning.com
HobbiesI am a curious, life-long learner and animal lover with a wide variety of interests including entrepreneurship. I am a published writer of several short educational works with 2 more in progress, a voracious reader, and a social justice advocate considering going into politics.
I love photography, music, beading/jewelry, design, nature, singing, acting, and gardening. My oldest daughter (12), also recently inspired me to play my old clarinet again.
My favorite subjects are history and literature, 2 areas I am excited to soon be offering small classes in! https://sollearning.com/services/

very good; started off with identifying the areas of concerns first even before she could start to tutor - a good nice first step.
Loura has been an great with assisting in my children's educational needs, and I would highly recommend her for any teaching/tutoring position.
